Hidden Gems in Ghana
One of the most common question I get is: ”where should I stay in Ghana?“ If you are a nature lover like me and prefer staying at places that are less known, you will absolutely love staying at one of these three hidden gems.

shai hills
Shai Hills Reserve is less than a two hour drive from Accra and is a must do if you enjoy camping with a hint of comfort. It is a perfect one- day getaway and one of my favourite hidden gems in Ghana.
Surrounded by various plant species and an amazing sunset view right in front of our tent made this experience even more memorable. You can take a hike up on one of the mountains and learn more about the Shai people and their culture. The entire area was declared forest reserve in 1962.
Don’t miss out on the hike up on this amazing view point. You will be taken to this view point by one of the park rangers, who are very knowledgeable and can answer any question you have regarding the reserve.
There are a dozen of animal species including these antelopes that we spotted on our way through the nature reserve.
Pros and Cons of camping at the reserve:
Pros
Being close to nature and having the opportunity to experience waking up by the sounds of it
Staying in a tent that has a high level of comfort (glamping experience)
A getaway for friends and couples
Cons
Although the tent does look beautiful it wasn’t cleaned properly before we checked in. We found dirty / used mugs inside the cupboard and the bathtub needed a deeper clean as well.
The food options aren’t great. They offer complimentary breakfast which comes in a little take away box. I wouldn’t recommend it especially if you are a vegetarian or have a specific diet.
The generator shuts down around 6 am so make sure to charge your phone in the evening.
Good to know: There is a barbecue place next to the tent incase you do manage to bring your own food you could use their supplies.
ANOMABO
If you prefer staying at the beach, I highly recommend ditching Accra’s buzzing city for a cabin getaway in Anomabo. We stayed at this unique mirror cabin with direct access to the beach.
Wearing: Qasafeme Adiba Batik Kimono .
Pros and Cons of staying at this cabin:
Pros
Direct beach access equipped with a little plunge pool
A fully equipped cabin with a unique design
Delicious complimentary breakfast and helpful staff
Cons
We couldn’t use the plunge pool on the first day as it took hours to fill the pool with water
Even though you are situated right at the beach there are a lot of rocks and stones which build a natural barrier between the ocean and your premises. In this regard do not expect a beach for swimming.
GOOD TO KNOW: i noticed this property has recently been expanded with more cabins. if you prefer to have privacy and have the premises to yourself, i would not suggest staying here unless you come with family and friends who stay in the surrounding cabins.
Akosombo
Not only did I come across this beautiful river cottage located on the Lake of Volta because I usually prefer staying at Airbnbs but also because I was looking for a unique place to shoot some content for my brand QASAFEME .

These lovely river cottages are surrounded by beautiful trees and are perfectly located at the river. For fun you can do activities such as swimming , kayaking and stand up paddling which I personally choose to do. You can rent it for an hourly rate of 50 GHS from the caretaker who lives on the premises and was of great assistance.
Pros and Cons of staying at this cottage:
Pros
A one of a kind place of peacefulness and a perfect getaway to relax and unwind
Direct access to the lake
Pet friendly
Cons
Personally, it wouldn’t be considered a con but if you are someone who relies on wifi and good mobile connectivity this might not be your cup of tea.
