How to spend 24 hours in Rome

Italy is one of my favourite countries to visit whenever European Summer approaches. Although Rome isn’t necessarily one of my favourite cities in Italy, its definitely a must see as it has so much history. In addition it is home to the famous Colosseum as well as the Trevi Fountain. If I only had 24 hours to visit Rome, this is how I would spend it.

colosseum

Everyone knows the famous oval amphitheatre in Romes city centre. To beat the crowds I advise you to visit as early as possible. Moreover once you avoid larger groups you will have the opportunity to get that perfect shot of the Colosseum. To do so, climb up the stairs right opposite and capture your perfect moment. While strolling to your next sight make sure to stop at Two Sizes. They claim to have the best tiramisu in town.

fontana di trevi

Rome is a walkable city. You can reach the Trevi Fountain from the Colosseum in less than twenty minutes. While strolling to the fountain make sure to stop for some Italian espresso and fuel up before making your special wish while throwing a coin into the Fontana di Trevi.

Pantheon

Next up, the Pantheon. Its only a 13 minute walk from the Trevi Fountain and admission to see this iconic temple is free of charge. The Piazza della Rotonda which is just opposite is a great place to have some lunch as well.

Tip:If you are not short on time check out Piazza Navona as well as the Spanish steps which are also free of admission.

Trastevere

Your trip to Rome isn’t complete if you haven’t been to the hip and bohemian inspired neighbourhood of Trastevere. Its hands down my favourite area to visit and also a great place to book your budget hotel or a simple bed and breakfast.

Trastevere is the perfect place to have dinner. Its known for its traditional trattorias and is also a great place to find beautiful gifts in one of many artisan shops. End your perfect day by heading to Belvedere del Gianicolo and enjoy the sunset while taking in the panoramic views of Rome.
